Abbey [Abbaye] - an abbey that offers lodging and/or
is lovely historical Abbey that is now privately owned and operated either as a
Hotel or as a B&B.

Bed and Breakfast - housed in a chateau or is a
unique lodging that can be called a chambre d'hôte, maison d'hôte or
manoir. Other B&Bs may be housed on farms [called a ferme],
a mill [moulin] or a mas [a farm in Provence]. Many
name their homes 'Domaine', Bastide or Clos. It depends
what area you are in, as to what the lodging is called; it
is sometimes very confusing. It's best to simply think of them all as a
B&Bs.

Dining - dining or restaurant facilities on the
premises.

Events or Spectacles - annual Events held on the chateau's grounds
[such as
a play, an historical reenactment of some sort, etc.].

an annual event, or the facility may be used for special functions.

Golf Club - has a golf club or there is one nearby. The golf
clubs in France are usually quite spectacular and beautiful,

Most provide facilities for meetings, seminars and other special functions.

This is a chateau specialty and everything

Seating usually is from approximately 40 persons to several hundred.

Tours are offered at this chateaux - it is most likely listed
as an historical monument and is open to the public for
visits or possibly for events.

that is not a chateaux - but rather an unique or
charming type of lodging or accommodation, found throughout France. A unique
property may be a renovated water mill, barn or
other, and their
hosts are very welcoming and friendly.

chateau, or a national
monument/museum in a chateaux, with hours of operation and contact information
and admission fees.

location. Some chateaux, and
other private accommodations, DO NOT accept credit cards. It's
pretty much cash only. Also, most smaller French businesses do not
accept traveler checks. It is best to
use VISA or MasterCard; even American Express is not
accepted that widely except in larger hotels and some
restaurants.

the 'rich and famous'. This is quite unique, and if
you're on a budget, this is a great idea to try.
