When you visit France, be sure and visit the
truly extraordinary and beautiful garden and parks [jardins et parcs] of
France. There are
informal and formal gardens of every description imaginable. Rose gardens,
magnificent floral gardens and kitchen gardens [called a
potager], or visit a Japanese ornamental garden or one of many sculptured
gardens, a formal herb garden and renaissance gardens. Even
if you're not a garden
enthusiast, you'll absolutely be in awe and amazed at these small or grand scaled glorious displays of color and
art. Monet's Giverny is
probably the most visited floral garden in northwest France. It is splashed with colors, and amazingly looks pretty
much as it did when he
painted his water lilies and Japanese bridge over the pond paintings.
The formal French gardens really came in to popularity when Andre Le Notre
the famous French landscape architect designed the
gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte in the mid 17th century, and was then called
upon to design the Palace of Versailles gardens for Louis XIV.

Chateau Thoiry Gardens and
Wildlife Park is north of Paris in Ile-de-France. It
is one of the
most visited places in France. You not only can visit the
magnificent chateau, that was designed using the 'Golden Mean'
creating the most unique phenomenon on the winter solstice.
There are the formal gardens [created by Claude Desgot,
LeNotre's nephew and successor], and their famous Wildlife
Safari park that you can drive through, and visit all the
animals up close. There are continual events taking
place year-round; and the wildlife park is open year-round.

Chateau de Monte-Cristo - In 1844, at the height of his glory, Alexandre
Dumas buys a a wooded site in Port-Marly, sitting on a hillside,
and instructs his architect "Right here you will design an
English park for me, and in its centre I want a renaissance
house. For my working cabinet, a gothic gazebo surrounded by
water...there are some springs, turn them into cascades." So
came into being the elegant Chateau, with sculpted facades and
surrounded by a vast English style park, with grottos, cascades
and stone gardens. Visit our

Parc et Jardin du Chateau de
Versailles
- The Château and the
Gardens of Versailles count among the most prestigious of the
world's heritage sites and represent the finest and most
accomplished achievement of 17th century French art. Laid out
between 1661 and 1700 by Le Nôtre who leveled and drained the
land and designed perspectives, groves, the canal and parterres,
Versailles is the model of formal gardens "à la française". It
is adorned with more than 400 statues in marble, bronze or lead,
and with water-playing fountains.
